Hey, I'm Kenny, the founder and lead researcher behind HostFinder.ca. I started this project after getting frustrated with hosting lists that described international providers as Canadian without clearly explaining who owned them or where their services operated.

I call this maple-washing: using Canadian branding or a Toronto server option to suggest a company is Canadian-owned. A hosting location and the ownership of the company behind it are two different things.

I wanted a straightforward resource built around verifiable details, not just marketing claims. My research looks at:

• ✓ Corporate and registry records: Legal entities, ownership information and parent-company relationships where records are available.
• ✓ Canadian business presence: Headquarters, operating addresses and published company information.
• ✓ ASN, IP and hosting infrastructure: Network registration and routing records checked alongside server-region and facility documentation. An ASN alone cannot prove a server's physical location.

I also compare published prices, Canadian-dollar billing and hosting features. If an ownership or infrastructure claim cannot be substantiated, I make that uncertainty clear rather than presenting it as verified.
